Ubuntu Server 7.10 upgrade how to

*Nota*
Nu faceti ca mine, IO taman am upgradat un server pe remote [via ssh]. Daca va pica netu sau se stinge lumina sau se impiedica cineva de cablu sau secretara scoate modemu` din priza sa`si bage facatoru de cafea, s`a dus dracu fericirea. Deci nu faceti ca mine, fara backup si teste prealabile. Nu raspund daca vi se strica! IO`s inconstient!!!

Procedura de upgrade a Ubuntu server de la 7.04 la 7.10 este banala. IO ca Slacker vechi, pot spune ca e nesimit de simpla.

1. Cpanel 11 Stage 2 e Release si Stable-u` vine saptamana viitoare. Asta daca nu se mai caca pe ei cu release date`u.

Ubuntu Hug Day

Ubuntu Hug Day – 22 August 2007. Dedicata Gnome

In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the GNOME project we are having a very special Hug Day on Wednesday, August 22nd. We will be focusing on the collaboration between the Ubuntu and GNOME projects by working on the following topics.

* Creating links between Ubuntu bugs reported in Launchpad to those reported in GNOME’s bugzilla
* Ensuring that any forwarded bug reports have the same information and are complete.
* Reproducing crasher bugs in GNOME’s bugzilla in the development release of Ubuntu to provide a detailed crash report for GNOME.

There will be a list of types of bugs including specifically targeted
bugs at:

This list will be finalized shortly before the start of the 22nd to ensure that all the bugs on it still need attention. Our goal is to deal with all of the bugs on that list.

So on 22 August 2007, in all timezones, we’ll be meeting in #ubuntu-bugs on irc.freenode.net for a very special Hug Day.

Ubuntu Linux Validates as Genuine Windows

Adica am si IO nevoie de ceva soft de la Microsoft cand ma dau pe Linux. Nimic mai simplu, numai ca IE4Linux nu suporta ActiveX pentru validarea Genuine Windows. Atunci descarc frumos scula de validare, o rulez cu Wine si voilla. Ubuntu Linux al meu este Genuine Windows.

Dupa cum zice si filmuletul.

Si da, e de ras pentru Microsoft… validarea pulii.

Second Life in Ubuntu

Second Life in Ubuntu. Cu amarok, drivere nVidia la click, sunet 5.1 cu putina miscare…
Pur si simplu Ubuntu 7.04 asta este un distro care “It just Works”. Nu`s fan Gnome da se misca mult mai bine decat Kubuntu. Nu stiu de ce, da e irelevant.

Cat despre Second Life, nu`s jucator. Am vrut doar sa vad daca merge si cum se comporta. Foarte bine mai ales ca versiunea pentru linux e alfa. Unpack si click pe executabil.

Singurele probleme pe care le am is cu sunetul, in sensul ca se mai incaleca aplicatiile si microfonul nu merge pe Skype. Da nici n`am sapat sa vad. Oricum Ubuntu la versiunea [maturitatea] asta, e clar o alternativa mai mult decat viabila pentru mediu office. [Si acum am un secretariat in care ruleaza de ani de zile Vector Linux, iar secretarele care se uitau pe site`uri porno n`au mai luat virusi]
